First Non-Japanese Student Recruited as Automobile Mechanic

“He is diligent and capable”
and we continue to recruit a mechanic like him, says Kumamoto Toyota Automobile

Kumamoto Toyota Automobile (2-chome, Hiyoshi, Minami-ku, Kumamoto, CEO Hiroshi Ihara) has recruited the first non-Japanese student, which has been struggling to secure the younger human resources as automobile mechanics.
Kumamoto Toyota hires three to five staff annually and successfully did three in Spring 2019 as sales staff, however things do not go that smoothly for securing automobile mechanics.
Number of Japanese students at the automobile mechanic vocational schools declines every year and Kumamoto Toyota started the new system five years ago where the new graduates from the high schools be hired and trained to be automobile mechanics. However the system did not go very well and Kumamoto Toyota has changed the system in order to secure the mechanic staff where those newly hired from the high schools are sent to the subject vocational schools as students and upon graduation from those schools, come back to Kumamoto Toyota as full time employees.
Under the difficult circumstances to secure the human resources, the new approach has started by recruiting non-Japanese students. Kumamoto Toyota hired Mr.Chaulagai Thal Prasad from Nepal, age 30, who graduated from Kyushu Automobile Technical College (Honjomachi, Chuoku, Kumamoto) this Spring and passed certification as the 2nd grade automobile mechanic.

Pursuing the world best skills in Japan:

Prasad explains, “when I was a kid, there was an automobile mechanic factory in the neighborhood and expired me to be an automobile engineer. There are a few opportunities to work as an engineer in Nepal and I would rather study in Japan where the best engineering skill is available. That’s how I aimed at coming to Japan for study.”
He was 25 years old and first studied the language and the culture at Japanese language school in City of Kitakyushu and then enrolled at the international course of Kyushu Automobile Technical College. He maintained the top performance for the three years there and passed the 2nd grade automobile mechanic qualification. Helped by the strong recommendation by the School, he was successfully hired by Kumamoto Toyota.

“Opening the door for the next students”

Prasad is currently responsible for regular and official car inspection. He said, “those skills I learned at the School are not sufficient for themselves. I need to learn whatever it takes from my senior mechanics.” Prasad completes the daily responsibilities everyday and plans to obtain the 1st grade automobile mechanic qualification and the 1st grade Toyota inspection certification. He discloses his motivation, “the track record I build by working hard shall open the door for more opportunities for the next students.”
CEO Hiroshi Ihara is strongly impressed with the commitment shown by Prasad, “He is capable and very fluent in Japanese language and extremely diligent. Shall soon make the engineer trusted by the customers of himself.” Ihara-san concludes, “we plan to continue and recruit non-Japanese engineers.”

Prasad is not an exception. There increases the number of non-Japanese students that intend to qualify as the automobile mechanic in order to obtain the jobs in the automobile industry in and out of Kumamoto Prefecture.
Kyushu Automobile Technical College increased the capacity of the international course (3 years) from 25 to 35. Total number of the international students, including those 14 non-Japanese students enrolled in regular course (2 years), reaches 94, of which Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh are the largest in this order.
Principal Nobuhiro Chiwata says, “we held the service sill contest at our school two year ago and invited general managers responsible for customer service and recruitment of some 30 automobile industry companies in and out of Kumamoto. Top three contenders were all consisting of the international students, which more than persuades them to consider recruiting the non-Japanese students more.
Kyushu Automobile Technical College holds the joint session for the recruiting companies, where in 2018, 31 companies participated from in and out of Kumamoto and 14 of them expressed their interest in hiring non-Japanese students and 9 were seriously considering. The Session is held in October this year and 40 plus companies intend to participate. Principal Mr.Chiwata hopes more Kumamoto companies to hire his graduates and concludes, “most of the non-Japanese students borrow the fund and pay for the cost in order to study in Japan. They may work no more than 28 hours a week as so called “Shikaku-gai Katsudo” (activity permitted to engage as the activity other than under the status of residence) and do hardly live easy lives. Having said that, they study very hard and hope to work longer in the Japanese companies. Their hungry spirit shall certainly help to vitalize the culture of the organization as the whole.”

कुमामोतो टोयोटा अटोमोबाइल (कम्पनी)　कुमामोतो शहर मिनामी कु हायोसी स्थित छ। कम्पनी मालिक अनुसार युवा कर्मचारीहरुको अभाव झेली रहेको अटोमोबाइल मेकानिक स्थापना यता पहिलोपटक विदेशीहरु लाई कर्मचारीको नियुक्ती गरिएको बताउछन। हरेक बर्ष बिजेन प्रमोसन स्टाफ ३ देखी ५ जना जो भर्खर विद्यालय सकेकाहरु, यो हिउदमा भने ३ जना कर्मचारी भर्ना भएका छन।
अटोमेकनिक भने अभावनै रहेको थियो। मेकानिक पढ्ने विध्यार्थिहरु पनि घड्दो क्रममा थियो त्यस पछी कम्पनीले सेन्न्मोन गक्कोउ नभएर उक्च माद्यामिक तह पास गर्ने लाई कर्मचारीमा भित्र्याउदै गयो। हाम्रो कम्पनिमा भने अटोमेकानिक बढाउने विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरु सन्चालन गर्दै गयो। तर बढेन अहिले भने कर्मचारी भएर २ बर्ष सेन्न्मोन्न गक्कोउमा अध्ययन गर्न पाउने कार्यक्रम सन्चालनमा छ। यसरी पनि कर्मचारीको जगेर्ना गरिरह्को छ। यस्तो गार्हो अवस्थामा नयाँ कार्यक्रम अनुसार विदेशी विध्यार्थीहरुको भर्ना गरिएको हो।
हाम्रो कम्पनीमा यो हिउद क्युउस्युउ अटोमेकानिकल सेन्न्मोन्न गक्कोउको २ बर्षे कोर्स सकेका दोस्रो लेभलको लाइसन्स पास भएको नेपाली थार प्रसाद चौलागाईंलाई नयाँ कर्मचारीको रुपमा भित्र्याएको हो।

संसारको पहिलो टेक्नोलोजी जापानबाट

सानैमा घर नजिकै गाडी बनाउने ग्यारेज रहेकोले भविष्यमा गाडी इन्जिनिएर बन्ने सपना बोकेको थियो। तर नेपालमा गाडी इन्जिनिएरको काम खासै थिएन। त्यसैले संसारको नम्बर १ टेक्नोलोजी भएको जापानमा अध्ययन गर्ने निर्णय लिई, जापान अध्ययन रोजेको बताउछन
सुरुमा आउँदा (२५ बर्ष) किता क्युस्युउ शहरको जापानिज भाषा स्कुलमा भाषाको अध्ययन गरी क्युउस्युउ अटोमोबाइल सेन्न्मोन गक्कोउको अन्तराष्टिय अटोमेकानिकल कोर्समा भर्ना भयो।
३ बर्ष माथिल्लो तहमा रही अध्ययन गरेको र दोश्रो लेभलको अटोमेकानिकल लासेन्स पास गरेको साथै स्कुलको सिफारिसमा कम्पनिमा जागिर खाएका हुन।

आगामी जुनिएरहरु पनि छिर्न सहज वातावरण बनाउने

हाल इन्जिनिएर भएर आवधिक निरीक्षण र सवारी साधन निरीक्षणको रुपमा काम गरिरहेको छ। स्कुलको अध्ययनले मात्र पुग्दैन त्यसैले सिनिएरहरुबाट धेरै कुराहरु सिक्न पर्ने हुन्छ। अहिले हरेक दिन काम गर्दै अटोमेकानिकको एक लेभलको लाइसेन्स र टोयोटा निरिक्षक एक लेभेल पास गर्ने लक्ष लिएको बताउछन। साथै आफुले राम्रो गरेमा मात्र आगामी आउने जुनिएर हरुलाई सजिलो हुने भएकोले उक्त बातावरण बनाउन आफुले कोशीस गर्ने बताउनु भयो।
प्रसाद सानको काम गराइ एकदमै राम्रो भएको र जापानिज भाषा पनि राम्रो भएको अध्ययनशिल व्यक्ती भएको कम्पनीका मालिक बताउनुहुन्छ।
चाडो भन्दा चाडो गाहाकबाट विश्वासिलो इन्जिनिएर भएको हेर्न चाहन्छु। साथै भविष्यमा पनि यस्ता विदेशी कामदारहरु भित्र्याउने उधेश्य रहेको कम्पनीका मालिकले बताउनुभयो ।

भोकाएको आत्मा कम्पनीको आन्तरिक बिकास लाई टेवा पुग्दछ।

क्युउस्युउ अटोमोबाइल सेन्न्मोन गक्कोउ

कुमामोतो टोयोटा अटोमोबाइल कम्पनीमा कार्यरत प्रसाद सन जस्तै यही शहर भित्रैको अटोमोबाइल सम्बन्धी कम्पनीमा काम गर्न चाहने विध्यार्थिहरु बढेको छ । प्रसाद सानले अध्ययन गरेको क्युस्युउ अटोमोबाइल सेन्न्मोन्न गक्कोउमा यो हिउद देखी २५ सिटमा रहेको सिट सङ्ख्यलाई ३५ पुरयाएको र हाल अन्तरराष्ट्रिय अटोमेकानिक कोर्स २ वर्षे कोर्सको १४ जना गरी जम्मा ९४ जना अध्ययनरत छ। उनिहरु नेपाल भिएतनाम र बङलादेशका धेरै छन ।
उक्त स्कुलका हालका प्रिसिपल २ बर्ष अगाडि शहरकै अटोमेकानिक कम्पनिमा उच्च तहमा रहेर काम गरेर आएका हुन। उनले सर्भिस कौसल प्रतियोगिता टिम बनएका छन सबै विदेशी विध्यार्थीहरुको टिम हो। यस्तो कार्यक्रम गरे पश्चात विदेशी विध्यार्थीहरुलाई लिने कम्पनीहरु पनि बढेर गएको छ। यो स्कुलले हरेक बर्ष जब फेएर (Job Fair) को आयोजना गरी अघिल्लो बर्ष ३१ कम्पनिहरुले भाग लिएको र १४ कम्पनिले विदेशी विध्यार्थी लिने र ९ कम्पनिले विचार गरिने, यो वर्ष पनि १० महिना पछी आयोजना गर्ने उधेश्य रहेको छ। ४० कम्पनीले भाग लिने, छ।
चिवाता प्रिन्सिपल अनुसार धेरै जस्तो विध्यार्थी लोन लिएर जापानमा आएर अध्ययन गर्दै छ। जापानिज जीवन पनि काम गर्ने अनुमती २८ घण्टा भन्दा बढी काम गर्न नपाई केही कठिनाई छ। त्यस्तो अवस्थामा पनि मर्ने गरी अध्ययन गरी जापानमा लामो समय काम गर्ने उधेश्य रहेको र उनिहरुको यस्तो भोका आत्माले यहाँका कम्पनी हरुको आन्तरिक प्रगतिको लागि पनि टेवा पुर्याउने छ भन्ने आशा गरेको गरेको बताउनुभयो।
